About us

Ever since I was a toddler, I was always drawn to the sea. By the age of 14, I would spend every day down at Babbacombe pier catching mackerel and then selling them by knocking door to door. I soon built up a regular customer base and my passion for fishing persists to this day.

When I turned 16, my father persuaded me to move to Falmouth and attend the School of Seamanship, where I learnt all aspects of working on commercial fishing vessels, including net making and mending, splicing, chart reading and, most importantly, sea survival. On completion, I worked on trawlers and scallop dredgers out of Brixham. I then moved up to Kinlochbervie, working on a 45ft crabbing boat, landing 4 tons of crab every day. After a near death experience, I came home to Torbay and bought my first fishing boat.

Over the past 30 years, I have seen the decline in fish stocks first hand. That’s why I am committed to only fishing and sourcing fish that is caught from inshore day boats that use sustainable fishing methods.

This is the best way I feel we can protect our fish stocks and waters.

I would love nothing more than to share my knowledge and experience with you all and prove to you that fish doesn’t have to be expensive and that fish is one of the only natural and wild products left, which is so good for our general wellbeing and immune system.

Wild fish and seafood contains a high quality protein that includes all of the essential amino acids for human health, this makes it a complete protein source. Vitamin A is vital to help regulate the immune system and protect the body against infections by keeping the skin and tissues within the respiratory system healthy.

Since the Covid -19 pandemic started, people were asking if I would consider having my fish delivered to their doorstep, Within a few days of starting, I was overwhelmed by the response from the public saying how fresh the fish was and inexpensive, also many told me they had never experienced the true taste of the sea like they had on receiving their parcels from me.

And so, 1 Fish (Torbay Seafoods) was born.

Thank you to everyone who helped me to help you.
